Barcelona

I love Barcelona. I’ve been loving Italy and yet a part of me wished this weekend that I had stuck with Spanish. The city is alive. I’m surrounded by all these old buildings and yet it manages to still be so modern. I don’t know how they get to two contrasting architectures to work so well together. I never feel like the old and new really connect in the same way in Italy. Many Italian cities don’t feel “functional”. Its like living amongst antiques. Its beautiful, but limiting. I might like Barcelona more than Italy. I need to go to a coastal Italian city to better compare before I say for sure. Part of Barcelona’s appeal is that it is on the water. Something about it makes me feel very much at home. It also reminds me a lot of California – cities on the water with a Spanish influence. I also loved the style. Its so stereotypical Euro trash. Bright colors, edgy styles. Italian fashion is very European but very put together. In Barcelona guys and girls played with their hair, make-up and clothes – each creating such an individual look. I loved people watching. There was also this great international feel. Really until people started to talk, it was impossible to tell who was Spanish and who was a foreigner.
