Maybe they'll adopt me

I’ve just been having the best week with my host family and the littlest kid. The youngest has started speaking so much. Its like living with a different little boy. I don’t know why he’s making all these leaps and bounds in the last few months, but I feel fortunate to be apart of it. He crawls into my lap and just give me so much attention. Or he’ll decide to eat his dessert over by me – or try to take a bite out of my icecream when I’m not looking! I wish I could better describe our interaction, but it’s all so subtle. The family is thrilled. The more he talks, sings (yes one night he started singing) and interacts with us, you can just see their faces light up.
Last night I was tickling Giorgio and he was screaming “more!” “again”, the dad looks over at me and says “Allison anytime you are in Italy you always have a home here.” It was so sweet and I wanted to cry. I just knew that it wasn’t something that had been said to every host student. I think they are just really pleased to see Giorgio take to me. I am sure I am the first host student to get to have this kind of relationship with Giorgio. Not that I have had a major impact on his improvement – I’m sure its just coincidental. Still Im so pleased to be apart of it all. I don’t want to leave. I just want to move in.
Being a host family is such a wonderful thing. I think I’d like to host exchange students one day. This family has been such a positive impact on my experience here and has made a lasting impression with me – I’m not sure they will ever know how much their kindness has meant to me this semester.
